A Place to Exist

This was one of my early ventures into the documentary genre of photography. Having been influenced by street and documentary photographers, I went into my home town in search of drama and interesting stories, and the photographs which could go with it.

I did find some interesting characters, and learnt to have a bit more appreciation for the town ,which I had grown up in with much resentment.

The original title for this work was “this is old factory town” as I felt the town was likely one of many similar to it. However, as I made further ventures and reading into the documentary genre, I felt this title connotated too much. A more appropriate title would have been “Opinions and thoughts of people in a small English town on a Wednesday afternoon.” The title, A Place to Exist, shows exactly what I think of the place.
