Oasis
I became interested in the notion of the common petrol station as an oasis for the lonely car driver, running on fumes. I was especially interested in the aesthetics of the petrol station, especially at the night time, when they become an illuminated attraction which draws in consumers with promise and satisfaction through strongly coloured facades and branding.
I wrote a short essay with the work, discussing how at the time, it had many connotations about oil and power, consumption and commercialism. However, now I view it as something a bit more simple, and related to my own attraction to the everyday.
